You could almost call this a Part II to my last post all about embellishment for the holidays, but this is a little more specific, with gems as the topic of discussion. I noticed it as a small trend, but used in a big way during the spring 2014 shows, especially in Milan at Prada and Marni. The jewel-decked dresses at Prada recalled a few looks from fall, like at Rodarte, and things to bring home that are faceted and sparkly, from soap to vases! I thought this post was too perfect to wait until spring. I love the idea of a jewel box-like holiday, from the decor to the look you wear!
I wrapped up my discussion of the fall 2013 collections quite awhile ago, because fashion is a fast paced world that you have to stay right behind, or you’ll get left behind! I’ve had my mind more on the fall couture, resort 2014, and spring 2014 collections…and as of a couple of weeks ago the pre-fall 2014 collections have started to trickle onto style.com. More to stay up on! I thought, however, with the pending holidays I would take a look back in the fall 2013 closet and pick out some perfect looks to wear for all of your Christmas and New Year’s parties. What I’m really loving for the season is embellishment. Why not have fun with your holiday look and sparkle like you only can this time of year. I’m not suggesting you mimic the ball in Times Square, but add one great bejeweled, sequined, or feathered piece, whether it’s a modern bomber jacket, skirt, or clutch, to some of your closet basics. I would die (in a good way) if I saw someone at a holiday party in the Chloé crystal cage dress, or crystal-coated bomber jacket by Giambattista Valli! More holiday posts to come!!

All that glitters really IS gold! In the final installment of my metallic color crushes, here’s my absolute favorite of the moment, gold!! Just in time for the winter holidays, this warm metal feels right, and from the looks of the spring collections will be hot well into summer!
Onto my next metallic crush…silver! I have to say I typically lean towards gold and bronze, but these sleek silver looks from the spring collections might make me reconsider which is the most precious of the metals! I’m starting off with looks from one of my favorite collections of the whole season, Altuzarra, where Joseph Altuzarra mixed in the most effortless way, henley tops with the chicest of silver lamé, and every skirt was cut as high as possible. I think he may be the only designer that can get away with that without being vulgar. Lanvin also had a ton of great metallic looks, and you know how much I loved Proenza Schouler’s show, so they of course made the list! Enjoy those silver favorites, and some newbies to my blog!
And one look for me to wear!
I had this idea for a holiday series featuring some of my favorite looks from the spring 2014 collections (still totally on my mind) that represent gold, silver, and copper, all of which I love! Metallic is huge for spring! I’ll go ahead and start with copper, and work up to the fanciest, gold. Copper presented itself in true form for spring, and in a more subtle variation, pink. The more rosey mauve tones that I’ve been obsessed with forever now are what I consider to be the non-metallic version of copper, while the real metallic copper was seen in lamé form from Givenchy to Lanvin. I posted about it already, but I still can’t get my mind off the copper breastplate and jewelry at Proenza Schouler (see, What’s Inspiring Me Now). I would love to see any of these looks worn during the holiday season, and I hope they inspire you for when it’s time to dress up and deck the halls! Stay tuned for silver next…

I was going to hold off on this post until sometime in December, and when it is actually officially winter, but I couldn’t wait! And why not start the new week off with fresh white fashion?! I’m pretty much over talking about fall and winter fashion, so I looked to the spring collections of 2014 as my inspiration. Spring is going to be amazing! From New York to Paris, designers really elevated themselves to whole new levels of chic. I’m absolutely obsessed with the looks at Proenza Schouler in particular! They are so fresh and modern, and are sure to be red carpet hits, as they have already on the likes of Rooney Mara. Everyone looks fantastic in white, and it is completely seasonless, so get inspired by the spring looks for what you should wear now!
A white look can involve subtle tone on tone and texture, like the snake print above at Calvin Klein.
Add a little pop of color if all-white is too much white, like the bold coral above at Calvin Klein and below at Thomas Tait.
I love the texture of this look by Creatures of Comfort, almost an eyelash fringe. The long jacket below on the streets of Paris has a similar feel.
White doesn’t have to mean stark white, as seen in the pearly white looks of Thakoon and others.
This is like a modern Katharine Hepburn. So chic!
A little pattern is nice with a white look.
The edges of pantsuits and a coat were printed to look as if a paint roller had been taken to the fabric, with only the seams and edges untouched.
A perfect example of white on off-white.
